Trial Firm Bienert, Miller & Katzman Picks Up L.A. Bankruptcy…

Trial and litigation firm Bienert, Miller & Katzman, PLC has brought David Guess on board as a bankruptcy partner. Guess will expand and lead the growth of BMK’s bankruptcy practice. Guess previously was a partner at Los Angeles based national bankruptcy firm, Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP.

Guess is well known nationally in bankruptcy circles for his roles in the Wet Seal, PacSun, Sport Chalet, Bob’s Stores, Eastern Mountain Sports, Souplantation, Sweet Tomatoes, Hot Dog on a Stick, Lake Las Vegas, Thorpe Insulation, and Michael Joel Kamen bankruptcy cases. As an active member of the defense teams in the multi-billion dollar Tronox and Samson fraudulent transfer adversary proceedings, he is also no stranger to bankruptcy litigation.

“Bienert, Miller & Katzman, PLC is one of the nation’s preeminent boutique trial law firms and I am thrilled they have called upon me to expand and lead the growth of the bankruptcy practice there. Bankruptcy cases have become increasingly litigious,” says Guess. “The deep bench of trial lawyers at BMK will be highly complementary to my practice, especially the firm’s top notch bankruptcy litigation group headed by Steve Katzman, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney specializing in bankruptcy fraud and the former U.S. Trustee for the Central and Southern Districts of California and the Districts of Hawaii, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. With the over 10 years of knowledge and experience I gained at Klee Tuchin, the assistance of BMK’s numerous lawyers who are former law clerks to highly-regarded Central District of California bankruptcy judges, and BMK’s trial lawyers standing behind me ready to jump to my aid at a moment’s notice, I am confident that I can take on a wide range of potential bankruptcy matters throughout the country. At BMK I can also do so at an affordable hourly rate, giving clients the best possible value,” Guess added.

Guess has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for his work in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law. Since 2015, Guess also has been named as a “Super Lawyer” in Super Lawyers Magazine (So. Cal. Edition). He received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where he graduated fourth in his class. He served as a law clerk to the Hon. Maureen A. Tighe and an extern to the Hon. Thomas B. Donovan (retired), bankruptcy judges in the Central District of California.

“David Guess is not only a bright, knowledgeable, and skilled bankruptcy attorney, he is all about strategy and results. He wants to get his clients to the best possible outcome as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible. David is not only a respected member of the bankruptcy community, he is one of the future leaders of the bankruptcy bar in California,” says Steve Katzman. “David is the right guy for us as we continue to grow our firm.”
