Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) June 14, 2013 – Each passing day brings the news that more transvaginal lawsuits have been filed across the nation.
“It was just five short years ago that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) indicated there were risks involving mesh implants. Since that time, the number of lawsuits, as a result of mesh implant side effects, has increased astronomically,” remarked Austin personal injury attorney Bobby Lee, of Lee, Gober and Reyna in Austin, Texas.
Why the apparent sudden increase in the number of transvaginal lawsuits filed? At first, it was a trickle of complaints about the serious injuries women were sustaining as a result of receiving a mesh vaginal sling. It was not until the number of cases began to grow exponentially, that other women realized they were not alone. It was time to take back their lives and demand mesh manufacturers be held accountable for their product(s).
The idea behind the transvaginal mesh implant is to offer organ support for conditions such as stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, which is related to weak pelvic floor muscles. While a good idea on the face of it, it turns out there are more cons than pros to this kind of invasive surgery.
“A short list of mesh implant complications includes, but is not limited to organ perforation, urinary incontinence, pelvic myofascial pain and painful intercourse. Despite the fact that the FDA indicated in 2011 that pelvic organ prolapse could be treated without a mesh implant, there have been well over 75,000 of the devices placed in women across the U.S. and that is a lot of women living in risk, pain and uncertainty,” stated Lee.
Even though those with mesh implants can undergo further surgery to remove them, this is risky as well, as often the mesh cannot be totally removed. Additionally, it leaves pelvic organ prolapse untreated, unless there is yet another surgery to craft a sling from the person’s own body tissues, if that is even possible.
“If you are dealing with the pain of a transvaginal mesh implant and are dealing with serious injuries as a result of this product, call my office for more information and to book a free appointment to discuss your case. My door is open to help you,” said Lee.
