“The Order of Service award is not given lightly. It is earned. I know how much time and effort these attorneys put in to protect people’s rights. I am proud that a number of our attorneys regularly receive this award,” said James S. Farrin, President of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.

Four attorneys at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin recently received the Order of Service award from the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ). The attorneys who received the award for the 2018-2019 fiscal year are Frederick (Rick) Fleming, Matthew Harbin, Anabel Rosa, and Gabe Talton.

Kim Crouch, the Executive Director of the NCAJ, said, “Members who are recognized as recipients of the Order of Service have given their skills and time outside of their already demanding practices to ensure our organization’s bright future. The great work of our committees, sections, divisions, and caucuses would simply not succeed in the same fashion without the clear commitment of our Order of Service recipients."

A James Scott Farrin attorney has received the NCAJ Order of Service Award every year since the award's inception.

“Protecting people’s rights has always been the NCAJ’s guiding mission. When attorneys go above and beyond to contribute their skills and talents towards this mission, the NCAJ’s Order of Service award serves to honor them with this well-deserved recognition,” said Gary Jackson, former NCAJ president and a leading litigation attorney at the firm.

Rick Fleming is an attorney-shareholder at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, and is the head of the firm’s Social Security Disability department. He is an NC Board Certified Specialist in Social Security Disability law, which only 43 (or 0.1%) of the 29,000 attorneys licensed in North Carolina can claim.* Fleming is fluent in Spanish and takes great pride in being able to represent and help the Latinx community. He is active in the Executive Committee of the NCAJ’s Disability Advocacy Section, and is one of its Past Chairs. He has received the Order of Service award every year since 2009.

Matthew Harbin is also an attorney-shareholder at the firm. He is a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation law, and is one of the past-Chairs of the NCAJ Workers’ Compensation Section. Out of the more than 29,000 attorneys licensed in North Carolina, less than 1% are NC Board Certified Specialists in Workers’ Compensation law.* Harbin is a member of the NCAJ Legal Affairs Committee, and has been honored with the Order of Service award every year since 2017.

Anabel Rosa is another attorney-shareholder at the firm. She practices personal injury law. Outside of the office, Rosa is a local force for Latinx rights. Not only is Rosa on the NCAJ Board of Governors serving a three-year term until 2020, she is also a member of the NCAJ Hispanic/Latino Affairs Division. In 2018, NC Governor Roy Cooper selected her to serve on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic Latino Affairs. She has been honored with an Order of Service award every year since 2017.

Gabe Talton is a personal injury attorney at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin. Talton is currently serving a three-year term on the NCAJ Board of Governors. He has received the NCAJ Order of Service award in 2010, 2014, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Fluent in English and Spanish, he is also the communications chair of the NCAJ Auto Torts Section, and was the vice chair of NCAJ’s Immigration Section in 2018.

“The Order of Service award is not given lightly. It is earned. I know how much time and effort these attorneys put in to protect people’s rights. I am proud that a number of our attorneys regularly receive this award,” said James S. Farrin, President of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.

For over 50 years, it has been the NCAJ’s goal to protect the rights of North Carolinians. The organization is made up of attorneys, legal assistants, law school faculty and students, and law office managers who all have a passion for justice.
