Real freedom, inner freedom, is a matter of making a choice to be free. And to sustain your freedom, you have to make that choice daily, in every situation.

Sometimes the only thing holding us back in life is ourselves, whether it’s insecurities that keep us from seeking a promotion, or fear of failure that prevents us from chasing our dreams.
But in his newly released book "A Freedom that Comes From Within" (http://www.khalilosiris.com), author Khalil Osiris offers advice and insight on how we can conquer the limitations we place on ourselves – and change our lives in the process.
Osiris, an international speaker on restorative justice and transformational leadership, is a former inmate who overcame literal imprisonment and earned college degrees while he was incarcerated. Yet, in his book he also uses “prison” as a metaphor for anything that we allow to limit the choices we make and the risks that we take.
“While I do believe that everyone is in a prison of their own making,” Osiris writes, “I also believe that no matter the circumstance or situation, freedom is always possible, and it comes from looking inward.”
In addition to his other efforts, Osiris is an advocate for prison reform, saying that we need to change the way we think about crime and punishment. The goal: Produce former inmates who can contribute to society, rather than become repeat offenders.
Osiris’ book comes with a companion journal titled "Practicing a Freedom that Comes From Within," which encourages readers to more fully explore how the issues raised in the book apply to their own lives. They are given blank pages to answer such questions as “How have I let go of old ideas that don’t serve me anymore?” and “What do I believe is my highest purpose?”
“Going on this kind of journey of self-exploration means that you believe, or are willing to work toward believing, that the source of your freedom lies within you,” Osiris writes. “Real freedom, inner freedom, is a matter of making a choice to be free. And to sustain your freedom, you have to make that choice daily, in every situation.”
