Shareholders Michelle D. Gambino and Howard K. Jeruchimowitz of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Retail Practice spoke at the 2019 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) U.S. Law Conference in San Diego, Oct. 23 – 25. The annual legal conference provides a platform for retail real estate legal professionals to discuss trends, gain industry knowledge and tactics, and network with peers. GT has been a longstanding supporter of the ICSC.

Gambino spoke to ICSC members at the council’s general session on the topic of, “Will Your Lease Get You Sued? Hear from the Litigators.” Panelists identified provisions in leases that can lead to expensive and time-consuming litigation, how to tackle those issues, and write a better lease to avoid litigation.

In addition to her presentation, Gambino and attorneys from Hudson’s Bay and Hugo Boss co-hosted the conference's “Premier Retailers Luncheon,” which gathered key decisions makers and legal talent in the retail industry. Shareholder Ilene K. Kobert also attended the luncheon and conference.

Jeruchimowitz spoke on “Resolving Disputes: A Peer-to-Peer Discussion of Thought-Provoking Dilemmas from a Litigator’s Lens.” The interactive panel invited participants to discuss recurring issues that can arise in real estate disputes and how to tackle them.

Neil Oberfeld, co-chair of the firm's leasing practice, serves as a key member of the ICSC’s Planning Committee and helps shape the legal topics and trends that are covered each year at the annual conference.

New York-based Real Estate Shareholder, Glenn A. Kleinbaum, and Washington D.C.-based real estate associate, Michael A. Hass were also in attendance.

Established more than 60 years ago, ICSC has more than 70,000 members across 100 different countries. According to its website, the organization is the pre-eminent voice of retail real estate.
