On Oct. 24, 2018, the Delaware Valley Law Firm Marketing Group (DVLFMG) will host Gina Rubel, founder and CEO of Furia Rubel Communications, Inc. Rubel will present an overview of the changes to the ABA Ethics Rules as they relate to law firm marketing.
The ABA has revised Model Rules of Professional Conduct 7.1 – 7.5 relating to lawyer advertising. Lucian Pera, chair of the Center for Professional Responsibility and litigation partner with Adams and Reese LLP, told the ABA Delegates that the revised rules “will make it easier for lawyers to effectively communicate to potential users of legal services….” Since Resolution 101 passed on Aug. 7, there has been much conversation about the actual changes to the rules by both supporters and naysayers.
Rubel will address the purpose for the changes to the Model Rules and what law firm marketers need to know about the new rule. She also will conduct a candid discussion about what these changes really mean to business and consumer law firms noting that the ABA rules only become effective if and when the individual states pass them.
