GC Metrics and CCBJ Team Up on Corporate Law Department Benchmark…

By gathering, analyzing and delivering smart data about law departments to GCs, CLOs, and legal operations professionals, we can help them add even more value to their companies.

Corporate Counsel Business Journal and General Counsel Metrics today announced the launch of a new and improved law department benchmark survey. A summary of survey results is available to participants on a quarterly basis at no cost.

GC Metrics, founded and led by Rees Morrison, a veteran management consultant to corporate law departments, for years conducted the world’s most comprehensive benchmark survey of law departments covering a wide array of metrics. More than 2,500 law departments submitted data to GC Metrics.

The new survey, a joint venture between GC Metrics and Corporate Counsel Business Journal, a leading provider of news and information to corporate law departments, will continue to provide intelligence on law department operations across industries, including size and make-up of department staff, internal and external expenditures, the outside law firms handling various categories of work, and other data designed to help law departments better understand their own operations in relation to similarly situated peers.

The benchmark survey also includes an exciting new offering, The Tailored Report, which delivers customized benchmark insights based on specific industries, revenue ranges and much more. The Tailored Report is available for a modest fee.

“This is the Age of Data,” Mr. Morrison said. “By gathering, analyzing and delivering smart data about law departments to GCs, CLOs, and legal operations professionals, we can help them add even more value to their companies. GC Metrics is delighted to partner with CCBJ in providing information designed to help law departments manage and improve operations.”

“Rees has been a valued contributor to Corporate Counsel Business Journal for many years,” added Kristin Calve, publisher and co-owner of CCBJ. “We are pleased to join him in launching a new and improved version of GC Metrics’ very popular benchmark survey.”

GC Metrics and CCBJ plan to release the first quarterly installment of the survey in June. Covering hundreds of law departments in the U.S. and Canada, the results will be emailed to participating law departments at no charge, followed by two cumulative quarterly releases covering the rest of 2019. Customized reports will be available for a modest fee.
