Delays on New York Subway From Bird Strike That Humane Bird Deterrents…

Bird strikes happen when bird meets airplane… but what about a subway train? Thankfully this young bird wasn’t hit, but any delay in busy New York City is significant. A young waterfowl, specifically a cormorant, landed on an elevated track this week. NYPD Emergency Services Unit officers quickly netted and safely removed the bird and transported it to Animal Care and Control.

The bird may have been sick, as it is unusual to find cormorants this far away from water. The bird found the elevated tracks to be a welcoming environment. These types of situations could be eliminated by making these spaces unwelcoming for birds with physical perching inhibitors like stainless steel bird spikes or a system of bird wire.

The humane bird control company Bird-X, Inc. also manufactures silent-to-humans bird deterrent devices that repel birds with ultrasonic frequencies that are harmless yet very bothersome to birds. The devices are directional, so they can be placed high on a roof to target birds perching atop subway stations without bothering commuters below. These products create an unwelcoming environment for birds, and condition them to stay away from the treated area.

Bird-X, Inc. has spent over 50 years protecting public areas from over 60 bird-spread transmissible diseases. The leading international brand of humane bird control solutions, this Chicago-based company manufactures a complete line of unique bird control products, protecting the health of humans, wildlife, and the environment by deterring birds from unwanted areas without harming them.
